Breakfast right by the Brandenburg Gate? It’s possible – you just need to know where to go. Here are our honest favourite spots within walking distance, from specialty coffee to a picnic in the Tiergarten. With one clear favourite, just a few minutes’ walk away.
The Brandenburg Gate is one of the most visited places in Berlin – and right here, finding a good breakfast turns out to be surprisingly tricky. Around Pariser Platz, hotels, tourist restaurants and snack stands dominate. If you want something genuinely good in the morning, you walk a few steps further. And it’s well worth it.
1. The Bike Café · 5 minutes’ walk from the Gate
Let’s start honestly with our own place – because it solves exactly what’s missing at Pariser Platz: a relaxed, good breakfast away from the crowds. From the Brandenburg Gate it’s about a five-minute walk down Wilhelmstraße to number 91.
We serve specialty coffee, freshly made breakfast plates, bowls, homemade pancakes and a brunch that runs all day. Plus a bike-lifestyle atmosphere you won’t find in the hotel restaurants around the square. Find out more on our pages about breakfast in Berlin, brunch in Berlin and pancakes in Berlin.
Good to know: We open early, so you can settle in before or after your walk to the Gate. You’ll always find our current opening hours on our Café near the Brandenburg Gate page.
2. Hotel breakfast at Pariser Platz
Right on the square, some of Berlin’s most famous hotels sit side by side. Several of them open their breakfast buffet to outside guests too. The location is unbeatable, the price upscale to match – a good option if you’re staying nearby anyway and like things convenient.
3. Coffee to go & bakeries for the road
If you’re in a hurry or prefer breakfast on the move, you’ll find several bakeries and coffee bars along Friedrichstraße and at Brandenburger Tor station. Handy for a quick start – though a paper cup to go rarely matches a freshly brewed specialty coffee.
4. Picnic in the Tiergarten
Just behind the Gate, the Tiergarten begins – Berlin’s green heart. In good weather, a breakfast picnic on one of the lawns is a wonderful idea. Grab coffee and something to eat at our bike café – perfect for anyone on two wheels – and ride the few minutes into the park.
Our verdict
At the Brandenburg Gate itself, good breakfast is scarce – but the surrounding streets hide real gems. Our tip: leave the bustle of Pariser Platz behind, walk down Wilhelmstraße and start the day in peace with us. All the details on how to get here, our location and the map are on our Café near the Brandenburg Gate and Café in Berlin Mitte pages.
See you soon at The Bike Café – we look forward to having you.
